Every pupil at The Orchard School has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). These plans form the foundation of our personalised approach — guiding the way we teach, support and nurture each young person across their time with us.
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. Instead, we create responsive, relational learning journeys that reflect each pupil’s strengths, interests and needs — always with their EHCP outcomes at the centre.
What Personalised Learning Looks Like:
Individualised curriculum pathways informed by EHCP Section F outcomes
Small class groups with high levels of adult support
Flexible planning to respond to emotional regulation and readiness
Interventions delivered by our Pupil Support Team and Learning Mentors
Personal targets co-produced with staff, families and professionals
Therapies and specialist input embedded into the school day (e.g. SALT, OT, counselling where specified)
EHCPs Drive Our Provision
Each pupil’s EHCP is reviewed at least annually in partnership with families and local authority professionals
We track progress towards EHCP outcomes as part of academic and holistic assessment
Termly reviews allow for regular reflection, adjustment and celebration of progress
Our SENCO team supports staff to implement EHCP strategies in real classrooms, every day
Pupil Voice Matters
Pupils are involved in setting their own targets and reflecting on what helps them learn best. Whether through conversation, visuals or key adult support, their views help shape their journey.
