PE and Sport Premium (Primary)

Confidence. Movement. Connection.

At The Orchard School, we use the PE and Sport Premium to support physical development, emotional regulation and social interaction for our Primary Phase pupils. For children with SEMH needs, movement isn’t just about fitness — it’s about freedom, confidence and joy.

Our offer is inclusive, therapeutic and designed to build healthy habits that last a lifetime.

What Is PE and Sport Premium?

PE and Sport Premium is government funding given to primary schools to improve the quality of PE and sport provision. It helps schools broaden access, increase engagement, and promote healthy lifestyles.

How We Use Our Funding

Our SEMH-focused approach uses the funding to:

  • Deliver high-quality PE lessons across Primary
  • Provide specialist sports coaching and enrichment activities
  • Develop confidence and coordination through sensory circuits and movement breaks
  • Invest in resources that support regulation, play and gross motor skills
  • Facilitate inclusive participation in activities such as team games, dance, or yoga
  • Offer adapted sports for pupils with additional physical or emotional needs
  • Train staff in inclusive physical education and therapeutic movement approaches

Why It Matters

  • Builds motor skills, coordination and stamina
  • Supports emotional regulation and sensory integration
  • Encourages teamwork, communication and resilience
  • Helps pupils manage stress, anxiety and low mood through movement
  • Promotes enjoyment of activity — not competition
