Transitions

Transitions & Careers (Key Stage 4)

Planning with purpose. Supporting every step.

At The Orchard School, we know that preparing for life beyond school can bring excitement — and anxiety. That’s why we begin the transition process early, with thoughtful, relational planning that supports every pupil’s hopes, needs and readiness.

From Key Stage 4 onwards, we embed careers education, guidance and life skills into the curriculum, helping pupils develop confidence, independence and a sense of purpose about their future.

What We Offer:

  • 1:1 Careers Guidance with trained advisors who understand SEMH needs
  • Work-Related Learning and vocational tasters
  • Post-16 Transition Planning embedded into EHCP reviews
  • Visits to colleges, training providers and employers
  • Mock interviews, CV writing and applications where appropriate
  • Personalised Life Skills Programmes including travel training, budgeting, and communication skills
  • Close liaison with families and professionals to ensure joined-up support

We Prepare Pupils For:

  • Further education (college or sixth form provision)
  • Vocational pathways or apprenticeships
  • Supported internships or training programmes
  • Independent living, community access and adult social care (as relevant)

Our Approach Is:

  • Relational – built on trust and consistent support
  • Flexible – adapted to each pupil’s profile and EHCP
  • Co-Produced – involving pupils, families and post-16 providers
  • Realistic and Aspirational – helping pupils build confidence in what’s possible, with support where needed

No Pupil Moves On Alone

Whether a pupil is taking big steps or small ones, we are with them every step of the way. Because transition isn’t an event — it’s a process. And we make sure that process feels safe, supported and hopeful.
