Flexible, relational, and responsive to individual needs.
At The Orchard School, we recognise that some pupils may need to access learning remotely — whether due to health needs, emotional regulation, or wider life circumstances. Our remote education offer reflects the same values that guide our in-person provision: strong relationships, emotional safety, and personalised support.
We do not take a “one-size-fits-all” approach. Our remote learning is designed to meet each pupil where they are — maintaining connection, supporting wellbeing, and keeping education consistent and meaningful.
Who May Access Remote Provision
Pupils medically unable to attend school (e.g. CAMHS involvement, anxiety-based school avoidance, physical health issues)
Pupils in phased transitions or part-time timetables as part of reintegration
Pupils requiring short-term remote access due to extenuating circumstances
What Remote Learning Looks Like
Personalised learning packs with structured tasks aligned to the in-school curriculum
Online sessions with key adults, teachers or learning mentors to maintain relationships and check progress
Regular feedback and adjustments to learning based on pupil engagement and need
Flexible scheduling to fit around individual routines and emotional readiness
Wellbeing check-ins to monitor emotional health and offer support
Our Principles
Relationships first: remote learning includes regular human contact
Routine with flexibility: structure is provided, but never at the expense of emotional safety
Tailored to the pupil: we work with families to co-create what works
Therapeutic thinking extends beyond the classroom: the 4Rs (Regulate, Relate, Reason, Repair) guide all interactions
Technology & Access
We work with families to ensure pupils have access to the technology and resources they need. Support with devices, internet access or printed materials can be arranged on a case-by-case basis.
