At The Orchard School, daily life is shaped by consistency, relationships and routines that help our pupils feel safe, settled and ready to learn. Many of our pupils have experienced chaotic or disrupted school experiences — so we build our day around clarity, emotional safety and trusted adult connection.
Our pupils know what to expect, where to be, and who will be there for them. That’s what builds trust — and trust builds progress.
What a Day Looks Like:
Morning welcome and regulation time — pupils are greeted by familiar staff and offered the space to regulate and settle
Structured lessons — focused on core skills and topic-based learning, delivered in small groups with tailored support
Regular movement and sensory breaks — embedded throughout the day to support concentration and emotional regulation
Enrichment and therapeutic activities — art, music, outdoor learning and more to develop confidence and curiosity
Mealtimes — calm, supported spaces where staff eat with pupils and model positive interaction
End-of-day check-in — preparing pupils for home and reviewing successes and next steps
Consistency Across the School:
Visual timetables and clear routines in every class
Support from trusted key adults throughout the day
Calm, low-arousal environments that reduce anxiety and overstimulation
Regulation and wellbeing spaces available to all pupils as needed
Our Days Are Built Around:
Relationships that repair and sustain
Learning that meets pupils where they are
Safe opportunities to try, to fail, and to grow
A community where Everyone Matters. Everyone Cares.
