Safe places. Calm minds. Restored readiness.
At The Orchard School, we understand that emotional regulation is the foundation for learning, relationships and self-confidence. That’s why we offer dedicated Wellbeing and Regulation Spaces across the school, tailored to meet a range of sensory, emotional and developmental needs.
These spaces are more than just quiet rooms — they are trusted environments where pupils can access co-regulation, reset their emotional state and re-enter the learning day safely and with dignity.
Our regulation spaces are never used as punishment or isolation. Access is relational, supportive and pupil-led wherever possible. Staff are trained in Therapeutic Thinking and use the 4Rs (Regulate, Relate, Reason, Repair) to guide every interaction.
To embed emotional awareness and self-reflection, pupils take part in Wellbeing Journalling every Monday and Friday. These sessions help pupils:
Journalling provides a calm, structured opportunity for reflection and expression, supporting the development of emotional literacy and building ownership of personal growth.
Wellbeing and regulation are not just ‘breaks’ — they are part of a whole-school approach that teaches pupils how to recognise, understand and manage their emotions over time. These skills are fundamental to future success, independence and healthy relationships.
