At The Orchard School, we know that regular attendance is vital for progress, consistency and emotional wellbeing. Many of our pupils have experienced school-based trauma or disrupted education — so we take a compassionate, proactive approach to building positive attendance habits.

We work closely with families and professionals to reduce barriers, strengthen routines, and ensure every pupil is supported to be in school, on time, and ready to engage.

Our Expectations

  • Pupils attend school Monday to Thursday, 08:45 – 14:30, and Friday, 08:45 – 14:00
  • Pupils should arrive by 08:45 to access morning check-in and begin the day calmly
  • All absences must be reported by 08:30 via the school office
  • Medical or therapy appointments should be arranged outside school hours where possible
  • Family holidays should not be taken during term time — requests must be submitted to the Headteacher in writing and will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances

How We Support Pupils and Families

  • Key adult and pastoral support for pupils with anxiety or separation challenges
  • Flexible or phased reintegration plans for pupils returning after absence
  • Attendance tracking to identify patterns early and offer support, not punishment
  • Home visits or phone check-ins where appropriate
  • Multi-agency collaboration with attendance officers, social workers and health teams
  • Reward systems and celebration of attendance improvements
