  • Admissions & Referrals

A therapeutic, inclusive school where every pupil is known, supported and valued.

The Orchard School is a maintained specialist provision for pupils aged 7–16 (Years 2–11) with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. All of our pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and placements are made through the local authority placement process.

We do not offer direct admissions, but we work closely with local authorities, professionals and families to support every referral with care, clarity and compassion.

    Who We Support

We specialise in supporting pupils with:

    • SEMH as a primary need
    • Anxiety, trauma or school-based avoidance
    • Additional needs such as ADHD, ASC or speech, language and communication needs
    • Dysregulated behaviour linked to emotional or relational difficulties
    • Complex learning histories or disrupted previous placements

All pupils benefit from our Therapeutic Thinking approach, strong relational support, and a culture where Everyone Matters. Everyone Cares.

    Referral Process

    1. Referral made by the local authority (e.g. Kent SEN Team)
    2. Our Admissions Panel carefully reviews the EHCP and supporting documents
    3. A school visit or observation may be arranged
    4. If the placement is agreed, a phased transition plan is developed with the pupil, family and professionals
    5. Once placed, the pupil’s curriculum and support plan is shaped around their EHCP
