  • Volunteering Opportunities

Making a difference, one relationship at a time.

At The Orchard School, we welcome volunteers who want to support our pupils, learn from our therapeutic approach, and contribute to a school where every child is known and valued.

Volunteering in a SEMH setting is a rewarding and eye-opening experience — one that requires empathy, consistency and a willingness to build trust over time. Whether you’re a student, parent, retired professional or exploring a career in education, we’d love to hear from you.

    What Volunteering Might Involve

    • Supporting pupils in the classroom under staff direction
    • Helping with outdoor learning or enrichment sessions
    • Reading with pupils or supporting play and regulation time
    • Supporting with creative or practical projects
    • Assisting with special events or celebration days

    Our Expectations

    • Volunteers must share our values: Everyone Matters. Everyone Cares.
    • All volunteers are subject to safeguarding checks and full induction
    • Volunteers always work under the guidance of school staff
    • Consistency is key — we ask for a regular commitment where possible
    • Confidentiality and professionalism are always expected

    How to Apply

    To express interest in volunteering:

    • Email us at office@orchard.kent.sch.uk
    • Or call the school office on 01227 769220

We’ll be happy to arrange a conversation and provide more information on our application process.

Please note: Due to the needs of our pupils, we are only able to offer a limited number of placements each term. Priority is given to those completing education or training placements relevant to SEMH or SEND.
